I found these eulogies of Robert in our local rag very touching.
RG was truly a dictator of the people.
I often enjoyed reading his editorials in Readers Digestive & The Socialist Ist Cist Workers Unionist Ist Trade Ist Union Ist Solidarity Railway Strike Workers Car Plant Ist Ist party - brothers. Party.
As is the modern fashion - some tributes were posted on socialist media - twitter - friend book - face book and minge cleft bookmagazine for the LGBTQRST community - as well as on 'Quim' - the latest fashionable instant media site for lesbian politicians and people who identify as genderless cats.
Some words of rememberance were painted on the arseholes of frenchmen.
Some of the rememberances were strapped to pigeons who were then unleashed - in a deeply moving ceremony.
These really are extraordinarily touching.

Robert was a very valued and much cherished member of the South Ockendon knitting circle and bowls club. He never wore pants - which as you can imagine thrilled some of our more senior members. The memory of him gracefully arcing into a fully fledged bowl with his flaccid and free hanging member whipping about like a snapped skipping rope is our final cherished image of him.
It was like a frisky eel.

I think people who go to another peoples country and become rich off their backs deserve to have all their goods violently taken off them and given to the indigenous people.

I went to Zimbabwe in the early 1990s and the country was still thriving. The difference between it and the countries to the north was staggering. The roads were good and the farms were modern and thriving. You could get good beer and a decent steak in a restaurant.
It's a shame he couldn't find a way to balance redressing some of the injustices of the past while keeping what made it successful. He put his own political career and survival ahead of the interests of his country and the downward spiral became worse and worse - a lesson a couple of prominent leaders of today could learn from.

Mental how many people's idea of "liberation" is to turn one of the richest countries in a continent to one of the poorest, murder thousands of people along the way and then die peacefully at 95 in a private hospital in Singapore while your people starve.
Don't think there's much chance of nuance there; he was evil and the world is better off now he's dead. Hopefully his country will recover and the damage he did isn't irreversible.

One thing that I have learnt since Mugabe's death was that his early years were that of him being a saviour and a liberator. I wasn't aware of what he did to free Zimbabwe from the white man's rule and to give Zimbabweans their freedom. He was a political activist and imprisoned and tortured for that fact. He then led the revolution. Interesting. I had no idea.
I think what comes after is obvious to everyone and needs no mention. A case of how greed for power and money can change a man.
